  • The school board is mulling whether to go against L.A. tradition and shift summer vacation to June 1 through Aug. 15, putting kids in class in mid-summer heat. LAT, DN
  • City Hall housing director Rudolf Montiel is being called both "a brilliant reformer who saved a struggling institution that had been plagued by scandal for decades" and "paranoid and vindictive." His $450,000-a-year compensation package includes ten weeks of annual vacation. LAT
  • Political consultant Don Novey gambled a lot of other people's money on Meg Whitman beating Jerry Brown. Bee
