The latest secretary of state count gives Democrat Kamala Harris a 53,764-vote edge over Republican Steve Cooley in the election for attorney general. There's only about 154,000 votes still to be counted statewide, according to the state's canvass, and most of those are in counties that already went for Harris. There was no comment from either camp on Tuesday, but unless Cooley is thinking of demanding a recount, Democratic strategist Bob Mulholland may have said it best: "It's over. Cooley, if he was professional enough, would call Harris before she cuts her turkey on Thursday."
* Wednesday update: The Harris campaign says in a statement:
District Attorney Harris thanks District Attorney Cooley for a spirited campaign and looks forward to working together on the critical public safety challenges facing California. The counties continue to tabulate votes, and District Attorney Harris believes it is only appropriate to wait until all the votes are counted before making a public declaration. She will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, November 30, the deadline for counties to report final counts to the Secretary of State.\
