Check that: Downtown Art Walk back on

artwalk-810-trucks.jpgFriday's abrupt announcement that the Downtown Art Walk would cease being held monthly on Thursday nights is now being called an unauthorized statement by "former director" Jay Lopez. The regularly scheduled event will go forward on the second Thursday of October (the 14th) while possible changes continue to be discussed, says Blogdowntown. Last week's announcement caught many Downtown community types by surprise, and also exposed ongoing political and personal rifts over the art walk. "Basically, I have been telling the truth about the crazy power grabs impacting the Art Walk non-profit for 10 months, and have often been anonymously attacked for speaking out," wrote Kim Cooper, whose husband Richard Schave used to run Art Walk, on Facebook. "I warned the community many times that Art Walk was in danger from people who are not community minded."
