Vaughn extends stay on gay marriages

U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker kept his temporary hold on gay marriages in effect until Aug. 18 to give supporters of Proposition 8 time to appeal last week's ruling invalidating key parts of the voter-approved measure. At the same time, he refused to impose a permanent stay of his Aug. 4 ruling. Today's decision, however, put a hold on planned weddings and celebrations across the state.
