Kitchen has a new book out, Suburban Knights: A Return to the Middle Ages, exploring the activities of the Society for Creative Anachronism, whose members recreate the arts and battles of the Middle Ages on fields around Southern California and internationally. The local division calls itself the Kingdom of Caid. "My work is to try to understand their quixotic tendencies and to capture some of that mystique," she writes.
