Man, it really is intern season in newsrooms. In the Associated Press story that moved last night on the remains of a buried ship at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, a scientist was quoted saying the wood samples would be sent out for "endocrinology." Um, since decayed wood has no real glands or hormones to study, we're not surprised that today's AP story modifies the quote to say "dendrochronology." A helpful sentence is added too: "Dendrochronology is the science that uses tree rings to determine dates and chronological order." The L.A. Times website updated its AP story, but not before commenters had their fun.
