At least six of Councilman Richard Alarcon's staffers have received subpoenas to testify Wednesday in front of a grand jury looking into where the boss actually lives. Alarcon, you'll remember, has been under investigation by the DA's office since at least January. The issue is whether he lives at the Nordhoff Street house in his district where he is registered to vote — but where neighbors say they seldom see him, and where a mysterious squatter has allegedly taken residence more than once — or does he live at a home his wife owns in Sun Valley that is outside the district. David Zahniser in the L.A. Times says the grand jury will put questions to chief of staff Saeed Ali, communications deputy Becca Doten, district director John de la Rosa, legislative aide Ackley Padilla, office manager Lidia Soto and executive assistant Nancy Hodges. Alarcon confirmed the story for Zahniser and said, "I don't think anybody wants their staff people to be called before a grand jury, but we believe we have a very solid position and when all the information comes out, we'll be fine."
