Mayor Villaraigosa told reporters today that his office will be disgorging documents on Friday about the official duties he claims to have performed at dozens of events. They are the events where he was spotted sitting in free seats or admitted he attended. "Tomorrow, as some of you are aware, we will provide the documentation to support that,β Villaraigosa said in the Times story. βItβs five years' worth of documentation. You have to go through boxes and boxes of material. I stand by the idea that this is the entertainment capital of the United States of America and, yes, I am in the job of promoting our city and promoting that.β As part of today's beginning of a response by the mayor's office, deputy Matt Szabo said the mayor didn't necessarily get tickets but was given access at some events to perform his ceremonial function. Here's the mayor evading my question at Staples Center last week.
