South Pacific takes over the Ahmanson

south-pacific-art.gifThe Lincoln Center Theater's touring production of South Pacific has been previewing at the Ahmanson Theatre since last week, but tonight was the media and stars opening night. Our audience spies spotted Mitzi Gaynor, who played Ensign Nellie Forbush in the 1958 film, along with Eve-Marie Saint, Jane Kazczmarek and Shirley Jones. Matthew Morrison of "Glee," who played Lt. Joseph Cable in the Broadway version, was there too along with Adrian Grenier of "Entourage," Michael C. Hall of "Dexter," Monty Python Eric Idle and pal Jeff Lynne, and Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. One of our correspondents felt a tad let down: "Trying to pinpoint what was missing from tonight's 'South Pacific.' Perhaps freshness, or chemistry, but certainly not cheek or talent."
