The summer film's title, “Dinner for Schmucks,” gets a thorough analysis by Michael Cieply in the New York Times. Should the Yiddish vulgarity more accurately be schlemiels, shmendriks or even shlimazls? Do they mean schmucks in the penis sense, or in the grass snake sense? Whatever, Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center has no issues with the chosen s-word. “Do I use it? I do not,” he told Cieply. “In the world, that word has taken on a different connotation...I’m not going to say there should be a law that Hollywood should not use such a word.”
