The Dodgers lost 7-3 today in New York, meaning they were swept by the Mets and have the worst won-loss record in the league. Even before the game, general manager Ned Colletti was going on the radio to call out his team for playing like they didn't care. He seemed to single out Matt Kemp for being a less professional ballplayer since he signed a multi-million dollar contract (and began dating Rihanna, though that wasn't brought up.) "I know I'm not seeing the same player I saw at the end of last year," Colleti said of Kemp, then went on to say the whole team is playing below last year's level. Colletti's record isn't exactly sparkling either: the pitchers he selected are struggling, one has already been released, and starter Charlie Haeger could be on the verge of losing his job.
The Dodgers also have injury issues. Manny Ramirez is shelved with a leg thing, opening day starting pitcher Vicente Padilla has a nerve problem in his arm that could turn serious, and Baseball Prospectus injury guru Will Carroll says that Rafael Furcal's hamstring strain has enough potential to get worse that "I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one." Other than all that, plus the divorce, things are just fine with the Dodgers.
* Update: Kemp's agent, the former Dodgers pitcher Dave Stewart, says of the GM: "What I would suggest for Ned Colletti to do is look at himself in the mirror."
