ESPN's Bill Simmons has written an interesting column explaining the conversion of an old-school baseball writer (him) to the modern sabermetric analysis embraced by an increasing number of major league teams. He introduces the new stats in a simple way, deals with their strengths and the flaws, and has a message for the journalists who cling to the old, simpler days and fall further and further behind: "You can't write about baseball in 2010 (or play serious fantasy or gamble or have an educated conversation) without embracing sabermetrics. Fight it, and you're just being stubborn."
