There was Roger Ross Williams, up on stage to accept his Oscar for best documentary short ("Music by Prudence"), when in from stage left comes an agitated-seeming woman in purple. She commandeered the microphone, and when she got done talking Williams was bum-rushed off. Turns out that Laurie Pike at Los Angeles magazine's Chic Leak blog dressed Williams for the occasion and has some backstory, plus some observations on trying to help out a friend as his guest stylist. Yeah, the designers weren't actually lining up to loan nice clothes to a documentarian. Update: Miami Herald staffers remember Elinor Burkett as a feature writer who was never demure.
* Even weirder?: Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were left out of the in memoriam portion of the Oscars, while Michael Jackson (two films, one of them a concert movie) was included.
