End of the line for Broadway Deli?

broadwaydeli_logo_small.pngA big rent hike and the desire by the landlord to break up the space at the south end of Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade looks like it spells the end, the Santa Monica Daily Press says. The restaurant's lease has switched over to month-to-month rental, though the owners are hoping that city officials stymie the landlord's plans. The Broadway Deli got a lot of attention when it opened two decades ago, partly because it enlivened the Promenade and partly due to its original partners, accomplished restaurateurs Michel Richard and Bruce Marder. The corner could be a prime spot when the renovated Santa Monica Place opens across the street.
