'Thinking about now in Los Angeles'

The Society of Professional Journalists of Greater Los Angeles is branching out, subject-wise and geographically, for a free panel discussion tonight. The topic is billed as "where our city is, where we’re going and how we’ll remember ‘this’ moment in L.A. history." Hector Tobar, the L.A. Times columnist and author of "The Tattooed Soldier" and "Translation Nation," moderates a group that includes deputy mayor Larry Frank, USC demographer Dowell Myers, historian George J. Sanchez (author of "Becoming Mexican American"), civil rights attorney Carol Sobel and Arielle Rosen of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. The location is Eso Won Bookstore on Degnan Boulevard in Leimert Park, starting at 7 p.m., and there will be live music.

More things to do: Adrienne Crew curates a selective Angeleno Social Diary.
