Kayvan Setareh was arrested at home in Pacific Palisades on Friday night for posting a supergraphic sign on his building at Hollywood and Highland. OK, that's unusual enough — booked into jail for an illegal sign — but City Attorney Carmen Trutanich says, "The days of lax and inconsistent enforcement of billboard and outdoor advertising laws in this city are over." Possibly bigger news, though, is that Trutanich asked for 1 million dollars bail for three misdemeanor charges — and actually got it from Superior Court Judge Mildred Escobedo. Setareh was apparently warned ahead of time not to post the sign, though Trutanich's chief deputy, William Carter, said the kidnapper-level bail was justified by "public safety issues." "There's something more to this that I think is going on," law professor Laurie Levenson said. Here's a possible "something more" — the sign promotes a movie and would have been visible to cameras covering the Oscars next weekend.
