MOCA's choice looks to be Jeffrey Deitch

jeffrey-deitch-nymag.jpgWhen Eli Broad introduces the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art on Monday, the betting is that the choice will be unconventional. "There is almost no such thing as a secret in the art world, so...the name everyone is expecting to hear is that of Jeffrey Deitch," Carol Vogel says in today's New York Times. "While the Harvard-educated Mr. Deitch has vast experience working with artists, selling artworks and presenting shows, he has never had a job that involved fund-raising, which is a crucial part of a museum director’s portfolio." Especially MOCA, it would seem. Mike Boehm, in the L.A. Times' advancer, agrees that Deitch "if chosen, would represent a break with art museum convention."
