L.A. journalists Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel helped co-produce an animated short on the remarkable feat turned in by Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis in 1970: after taking LSD here in Los Angeles on what he thought was an off-day, he threw a no-hitter in San Diego against the Padres. Alexander and Ilel talked to Ellis a few years ago for a radio piece and used the audio. The film has been selected to be shown at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. Ellis died of liver cancer in 2008 at age 63, here in Los Angeles.
