Daily News needs new online editor

Online Editor Ryan Garfat is leaving the Daily News to be one of five editors working on ESPN's soon-to-launch Los Angeles site, working out of the L.A. Live newsroom downtown. Carolina Garcia, editor of the Daily News, tells LA Observed she's looking for a replacement. Here's the abbreviated job description:

The Los Angeles Daily News seeks an online editor to direct editorial operations for www.dailynews.com.

The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years experience in online media and two (2) years in a management role. This person should be a visionary leader who can work in a fast-paced breaking news environment juggling long-term projects and day-to-day coverage.

The online editor will be responsible for leading the editorial mission of dailynews.com, growing traffic and adopting new technologies to tell stories relating to the San Fernando Valley in a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.

Familiarity with Web-based tools including but not limited to HTML, CSS, content management systems, Photoshop, video production software such as Final Cut and database software is required. A strong understanding of search engine optimization, Web site development and social media tools is preferred.
