Police chief finalists named

The three candidates recommended by the Police Commission are Deputy Chief Charles Beck, First Assistant Chief Jim McDonnell and Deputy Chief Michel Moore. Mayor Villaraigosa said he will begin interviewing them at Getty House on Wednesday, starting with Beck at 4:30 p.m. McDonnell will come in Thursday afternoon, Moore on Friday. For its part, the Los Angeles Police Protective League said in a statement that it can work with any of the three equally.

Also: Deputy Chief Michael Downing was named interim chief to run things after William Bratton leaves on Saturday. Downing, who did not apply to be considered for the top job, runs the LAPD's counter-terrorism bureau.
