The new California HealthCare Foundation Center for Health Reporting at USC Annenberg has an ad running for three senior writers — "three experienced, accomplished, self-starting journalists to report about the health care issues that concern Californians."
Candidates should be skilled in narrative, explanatory and investigative reporting and able to undertake complex projects, including multimedia components. As health care issues are ultimately about people, successful candidates should be adept at storytelling, weaving policy issues with compelling, people-based storylines. They should also be committed to the center’s solutions-based approach to journalism. Candidates must demonstrate a finely honed collaborative sense as most projects will be pursued in partnership with other news organizations, in and around their newsrooms, with reporters and editors of varying skills and experience. At various times, these senior writers will be called on to be a mentor and a diplomat....
One job will likely be based in Sacramento. Applications may go to Michael Parks, the former USC Annenberg director (and ex-L.A. Times editor) who oversees the program.
