There are two new blogs by L.A. journalists that I've started following. L.A. Explored is by journalist and fellow Angel City Press author Amy Dawes, who posts, "I live in southwest Los Angeles, just east of Culver City at the foot of the Baldwin Hills. It’s surprisingly great over here. From time to time I’ll post about this area, as well as the other places I get to. You can live in Los Angeles for a long time, like I have, and still be constantly discovering it." She has a post up today about Peter Jones' documentary, "Inventing L.A.: The Chandlers and Their Times," which airs on PBS for the first time on Monday, Oct. 5. LA Observed columnist Bill Boyarsky wrote the companion book for Angel City Press, and I just have to say the book is a satisfying read and drop-dead gorgeous (designed by Amy Inouye, the keeper of Chicken Boy over her Future Studio Gallery in Highland Park, and who also designed my Wilshire book.)
Also, Karen Ocamb's LGBT POV, which she introduces today: "While this blog is intended for the LGBT community in the Los Angeles area – especially as we are impacted by local, state and national politics – I am also interested in subjects that don’t seem specifically LGBT but matter to us such as the economy, the environment, pets, books, and personal stories." Ocamb is news editor for Frontiers in LA magazine.
The family that blogs together: Dawes is married to The 99-Cent Chef.
By the way: I've been promising to update my blogroll and links for two years — and I really am getting close. So many new blogs, and so much turnover.
