Steven Bach was the executive at United Artists who took the fall for "Heaven’s Gate" and went on to write "Final Cut," which William Grimes in the New York Times obit calls "a gripping insider account of the debacle." Film critic David Thomson called it "the best book ever written about the making of a movie." Bach also wrote biographies of Marlene Dietrich, Moss Hart and Leni Riefenstahl. He died of cancer at home in Vermont.
