Corsini to run KTLA

Confirming speculation that's been around since he left Channels 2 & 9 last summer, Don Corsini has been named president and general manager of KTLA Channel 5. The job has been vacant since Vinnie Malcolm departed shortly into the Sam Zell era at Tribune. From Variety:

In announcing Corsini's appointment, Ed Wilson, prexy of Tribune Broadcasting and Tribune's chief revenue offier, emphasized Corsini's experience in negotiating sports rights deals. There's been speculation that Tribune is eyeing a major expansion of KTLA's sports programming, perhaps as a separate digital channel and possibly as a regional partnership with other Southern California stations.

Separately, Tribune's cabler WGN America said it has cut a deal with WWE for a weekly hourlong show dubbed "WWE Superstars," to bow in April. Wrestling skein will feature a range of male and female grapplers from the WWE roster. Deal comes as part of Tribune's effort to beef up the original programming on WGN to make it more competitive as a general entertainment channel.
