  • Times columnist Sandy Banks rallies behind Denise Tyrrell, who resigned as Metrolink spokeswoman after telling the media that the agency's engineer was at fault in the Chatsworth crash: "I'm not prepared to call Tyrrell a hero. She struck a blow for decency." LAT
  • There was a fourth Metrolink crash survivor who also had lived through the 2005 Glendale crash. NYT

  • A federal court jury rejected LAPD Lt. Jim. Gavin's claim that he suffered retaliation from superiors after questioning a decades-old murder investigation conducted by a colleague. LAT
  • Elmer Dills, for years a popular restaurant reviewer on Channel 7 and on radio, died at age 82. ABC-7
