Belmont tunnel mouth lives on

New
This weekend I saw the recently finished Belmont Station apartments on the old soccer field at 2nd Street and Beverly near Belmont High and wondered if the subway tunnel opening survived. OldVia Curbed LA I learn that it did. The tunnel mouth where street cars used to rattle between Hollywood and the Subway Terminal Building downtown has been cleaned up and a mural added. The area, once part of the Toluca Yard, is going to be a dog park for the apartment complex. The tunnel mouth, which is behind the apartments, and nearby substation building were given historic-cultural monument status in 2004.
