City Hall not ready for disasters

Controller Laura Chick's auditors looked at 26 city departments and found that 16 have not updated their emergency plans in the past three years. The chief legislative analyst's office had not dusted off its plan since 1993. "I do not want the public to be afraid," Chick said. "But I want the public to know that the city of Los Angeles is not as well-prepared for a widespread disaster as we need to be and as we can be." Daily News
