Lots of people have gotten caught in the foreclosure vise — but Rep. Laura Richardson? The Democrat won last year's special election in the Long Beach-Compton area, loaning her campaign $60,000. Capitol Weekly reports that when Richardson went to Washington, the former assemblywoman walked away from a home in Sacramento's Curtis Park neighborhood, leaving nearly $600,000 in unpaid bank loans and fees.
Like many homes that have gone through foreclosure, Richardson's new residence quickly became an eyesore. With Richardson gone, upkeep on the home lapsed, and neighbors began to get angry."The neighbors are extremely unhappy with her," said Sharon Helmar, who sold the home to Richardson. "She didn't mow the lawn or take out the garbage while she was there. We lived there for a long time, 30 years, and we had to hide our heads whenever we came back to the neighborhood."
Though she screwed her bank on the Sacramento home, and her neighbors, Richardson still owns her primary home in Long Beach.
