Mayor Villaraigosa told the city DOT today to bar most rush-hour parking as far east as Fairfax and to re-time the lights on Pico to favor eastbound traffic and Olympic to favor westbound, the Times' Sharon Bernstein reports. After six months or more, lanes would be restriped to further favor those directions. The move overrules objections in the community and on the City Council, but by stopping the project at Fairfax caves in to concerns from Councilman Herb Wesson about continuing to La Brea. Not that the stretch of Pico east of Fairfax is anything special — and I used to live in the neighborhood.
