Villaraigosa school plan comes to a vote

Teachers and parents at Roosevelt, Santee and Jordan high schools, and at Hollenbeck, Stevenson, Markham and Gompers middle schools, vote today on whether to become part of the mayor's reform scheme for seven low-performing LAUSD schools. DN The district has sent home flyers that seem to advocate for the move.

Surprise traffic stat

About 1 in 10 freeway deaths here is a pedestrian. Last year in Southern California, 81 pedestrians, ranging in age from 14 to 83, were struck down on freeways -- 14 of them on I-5 through Los Angeles County, says the LAT's Mike Anton.
