Martin J. Smith and Barbara Thornburg were, I think, the last senior editors at the Los Angeles Times Magazine to pre-date and survive the West experiment. Anyway, Smith is finally leaving too. He is going back to his roots as editor in chief of Orange Coast Magazine, recently purchased by Emmis, the Indiana media company that owns Los Angeles and Tu Ciudad (as well as Texas Monthly.) Smith was editor of Orange Coast from 1994-98. Coincidentally, the editor of Tu Ciudad, Oscar Garza, also used to be an LATM senior editor. Read the release
