Infant dies after county worker goes home

A social worker for the Department of Children and Family Services was told to take a starving baby from the Union Rescue Mission to a 24-hour clinic, but she made the call to wait after working a long day without a break. The coroner rules the death a homicide. LAT


"Dateline" readies hour special on Spector case

Eric Longabardi's ERS News website says that the NBC show is gearing up to make use of inside info from Spector juror Adam Gorfain, a Dateline producer.


Hollywood Boulevard at Highland closed for filming

Will Smith's new movie John Hancock affected traffic around LAX last month. This week the stretch of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange Avenue can be closed from 5 am to 9 pm through Wednesday. ABC-7

L.A. author in NYT

Jordan Belfort served 22 months in prison for swindling investors out of more than $100 million as head of the Stratton Oakmont brokerage house. His book The Wolf of Wall Street, coming Sept. 25, "describes how he and his cronies bamboozled small investors by selling them artificially inflated stocks. Much of it was done while cruising along on a Quaalude high, and when regulators became suspicious, Mr. Belfort moved his money to Switzerland." NYT

Julius Shulman photos at LAPL

Some 150 rarely seen photographs by Shulman will hang in the Getty Gallery at the Central Library from Oct. 6 to January 20, 2008 in honor of the Los Angeles photographer's 97th birthday. He was born on 10-10-10.


Journalist honored

Claudia Peschiutta of KNX Radio won the Howard S. Dubin Outstanding Professional Member Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. She is on the board of the Los Angeles SPJ chapter.
