DN still sorry for Beetle Bailey

Editor Ron Kaye is still apologizing for cutting some comics beloved by the Daily News' declining (and apparently aging, based on their choice of comics) print readership. His latest editor's note in the paper says they will even run some back issues so fans won't miss any of "For Better or For Worse." Apparently, the Jumble is new to the DN audience.

To our readers:

I am pleased to report that on Monday we are bringing back many of your favorite comics - eight in all - and features like the Bridge column.

And on Sunday we are running the 12 episodes you missed of three of the most popular comics: "For Better or For Worse," "Funky Winkerbean" and "Judge Parker." So you won't miss any part of the story lines of these comics.

Besides those three, here's the lineup of comics returning Monday to the LA.COM section: "Beetle Bailey," "Garfield," "One Big Happy," "Mallard Fillmore" and "Hagar the Horrible."

In addition to our Bridge column, we are bringing back our old horoscope and introducing a puzzle called Jumble that has been popular for many years.

Again, I apologize for the mistake we made and want to thank you for your feedback, your patience and your support for the Daily News.

Ron Kaye, Editor

OK, that's taken care of. But you have to wonder how readers in distant Ontario, San Bernardino and even Long Beach feel about getting a feature section called LA.com in place of what they received before. [Actually, the print section way out there is called Go! — "part of the LA.com network" — b ut on the papers' websites it is LA.com.]
