LAPD chief William Bratton did the deed today and requested a second term. "It's been an honor and a privilege to serve as Los Angeles' chief of police," he said in a statement. "While we have accomplished a great deal, there is still more to do. I want to continue to lead that effort over the next five years." Mayor Villaraigosa already has endorsed a second term for the chief. The police commission now has ninety days to act on the request.
