Starting lawyer pay: $160,000

The law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges raised its salary for new associates to $160,000 a year, following the lead of a top New York City firm, tomorrow's L.A. Daily Journal says on the front page. Los Angeles-based O'Melveny & Myers also bumped up to the new level, but only for lawyers in Manhattan. "It always seems to happen this way," said Marcia M. Krufka, a principal at the consulting firm Altman Weil. "It's just a question of who's first." Subscribers only.
