  • Gov. Schwarzenegger has been out of state for 204 of the 1,136 days he has been in office — or 1 of every 5.6 days, the LAT says based on records kept by Lt. Gov. Bustamante's office. Much of that time has gone unannounced to the public, like the Sun Valley ski vacation where the governor broke his leg. If you're keeping score, Gray Davis was gone a total 113 days and served for longer.
  • Fargo, released in 1996, will be the youngest film among the National Film Registry's 450 entries. Talk about the n-word: Blazing Saddles is also among this year's 25 selected films.
  • Metro Rail lines aren't just free on New Year's Eve, they will run all night at twenty-minute intervals on Sunday.
  • Former City Hall deputy and Weber Shandwick senior VP Eric Rose has left Waste Management Inc. to launch the Rose Group, a "strategic communications consulting firm" located in Simi Valley.
  • Every copy of the Wall Street Journal will be free on Jan. 2 to show off the long-planned, less-is-more new design. Access to the website will be free too.
  • Alan Mendelson has reappeared on KCAL-9 as the host of Best Deals, which he also produces.
