Legal beat

LA Biz Observed had it early this morning: the U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles, Debra Yang, is resigning to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and co-chair the firm's crisis management group.

Also: Yesterday's Daily Journal (no link) had an eye-popper of a story: the Santa Barbara County district attorney's office plans to put on video evidence to support a witness's claim that he is regularly visited by horned, alien-like creatures that emerge from his closet. Gary Lowrey is a witness for the DA in a lawsuit against Greka Energy Corp. He has testified that aliens prick pin-size holes in his body and those of his wife and children, often forming diamond-shaped patterns. Deputy District Attorney Jerry Lulejian says the video proves that a "phenomenon" occurs at Lowrey's house and that his witness is not, well, insane:

There are things that look really, really strange. It sort of put the hair on the back of my neck up when I saw them.

The attorney who took Lulejian's deposition was surprised that the DA was so calm about it all: "He seemed to be not nearly as troubled as one would expect of someone whose witness makes claims of alien visitations." Lowrey is well-known on UFO visitation sites.
