Joe Beimel's hand wound, reportedly suffered when a glass broke in in his hotel room, means that the Dodgers will have only one lefthander in their bullpen against the Mets. And that won't be pretty because the lefty is Mark Hendrickson, who lost his job as a starter due to ineffectiveness. With Beimel out, rookie Chad Billingsley joins the bullpen for this round of the playoffs. James Loney makes the team as well. The roster announced this morning, via MLB.com:
In addition to Billingsley, the 10-man pitching staff consists of Game 1 starter Derek Lowe, Game 2 starter Hong-Chih Kuo, Game 3 starter Greg Maddux, Game 4 starter Brad Penny and relievers Takashi Saito, Jonathan Broxton, Brett Tomko, Mark Hendrickson and Aaron Sele. The 15 position players: outfielders J.D. Drew, Kenny Lofton, Marlon Anderson, Andre Ethier, Jason Repko; infielders Garciaparra, Jeff Kent, Rafael Furcal, Wilson Betemit, Julio Lugo, Ramon Martinez, Olmedo Saenz and Loney; catchers Russell Martin and Toby Hall.
The Mets will go with John Maine in the 1 pm game. (Today's Dodgers starter, Derek Lowe, is posting a blog of a sort.) There's still been no announcement made about the timing of Saturday's game in Los Angeles. If you have tickets you just have to keep the whole day open. Meanwhile, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo announced a misdemeanor charge against a fan who threw a souvenir bat from the upper level of Dodger Stadium during the Sept. 19 game against the Pirates.
Also: The Daily News' Vincent Bonsignore will live-blog the game for the DN website and answer questions from fans.
