Axe falling on NBC 4?

FTVLive cites inside sources at KNBC saying layoffs are to follow a merger of assignment desks at the NBC newsroom in Burbank.

Sources say that the NBC suits in New York have ordered that the assignment desks at NBC News (Network News), KNBC-TV News (local), CNBC and KVEA-TV, in Burbank, be merged into one. Says our source, "cables are already started to big laid at this mega assignment desk." A management source at KNBC tells FTVLive that "there will be layoffs at the KNBC assignment desk soon."

Not exactly a sign of the apocalypse, but more evidence of leaner times in the news biz. Last week it was the demise of Variety Weekend and the L.A. Alternative and buyouts at the Orange County Register.
