'Non-Tactical Negligent Discharge'

The headline is LAPD-ese for "he's in trouble." According to the department news blog, Officer Chris Walker of Pacific Division was at home around midnight when he heard his wife scream in their living room. She had seen a man attempting to enter their gate, two weeks after the couple's home had been burglarized. The department says that Officer Walker "retrieved his service weapon and rushed to his wife's side. As he was walking, his gun went off, the bullet travelled north and exited through a window." That's one way to scare off a midnight intruder. Not a legal way, mind you, but a way. Or just an accident. The Police Commission will review the case.
