Red-light cameras will be turned on in August at two intersections, LADOT officials said today. The first two corners where tickets will be issued are Laurel Canyon at Ventura boulevards in Studio City and Manchester Boulevard at Rodeo Street in Ladera Heights (or so the Daily News says, but that intersection doesn't exist. Previous stories have said La Brea and Rodeo Road is getting a light.) The plan is to wire 32 intersections with cameras to catch red-light violators, but then this plan has been underway for quite a while.

* Tuesday update: The Times story says, as we suspected, that the target intersection closest to Ladera Heights is La Brea and Rodeo. Others getting cameras in August (per the LAT) are Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Victory Boulevard; De Soto Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard; National Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard; Olympic Boulevard and Soto Street; Figueroa Street and Imperial Highway; Figueroa and Florence Avenue; Griffin Avenue and North Main Street; and Beverly Boulevard and Western Avenue. This time they will photograph the front and rear license plates and use higher resolution video so that droives can be identified.
