News-Press spokesman off the case

Sam Singer, the San Francisco PR attache for Wendy McCaw and the Santa Barbara News-Press, is described as "resigning" — and won't say why — in today's Leah Garchik column in the SF Chronicle. I suspect there's a clue to his departure in Sharon Waxman's drop-in line in Sunday's New York Times piece saying that McCaw "on Friday hired a crisis expert in public relations." She has previously used Sitrick and Co.
