LAT's promo bomb

By now most people have probably heard of the Times' promotion-gone-wrong for Mission: Impossible III. Devices placed in newsracks to play theme music when the box is opened apparently look enough like explosive devices that bomb squads have been called at least twice. The Times reported last week on a newsrack being blown up in Santa Clarita and a scare at the VA hospital in West L.A. Army Archerd's latest blog entry for Variety says that the VA "bomb" forced evacuation of the hospital during his friend Sid Bogin's surgery: "Although he was still wearing a hospital gown he was directed out in the parking area where all patients had now been evacuated and assembled -- even those in wheelchairs, on gurneys, etc."
