Patric Kuh, the food critic at Los Angeles magazine, won for best magazine restaurant review or critique at the James Beard Foundation journalism awards in New York announced last night. His winning pieces were "In the Raw," "Steak Out" and "Seaworld." Other finalists in the category were Alan Richman of GQ and Caroline Bates of Gourmet. Jonathan Gold of LA Weekly won for best restaurant review or critique in a newspaper (for "Great Balls O'Rice," "Raw Power" and "The Revolutionary") and freelancer Carolynn Carreno won in the category of newspaper feature writing with recipes (for "Cubism Makes a Comeback" in the L.A. Times.)
