Port politics

Lots of City Hall tongues clucking about the news (published in the Daily Breeze) that Stacey Jones, the #2 exec at the Port of Los Angeles, is leaving after 25 years to work for a Long Beach engineering and design firm. Why it's news is that the firm, Moffatt & Nichol, has been recommended for a $6.9 million contract to refurbish Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro. Jones prepared and signed the report that was going to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for approval to give Moffat & Nichol the lucrative contract. Now that Jones' resignation to become a principal at the company has been disclosed, the contract has been pulled for "further review." Jones, who observers say has close ties to San Pedro Councilwoman Janice Hahn, was passed over for the top job at the port last year.

City Hall add: Council president Eric Garcetti formed an ad-hoc committee on "public debt, bonds and financing" with Tony Cardenas as the chair. Other members are Parks, Reyes, Rosendahl and Hahn.
