Times passes on this UFW story

From today's Daily News:

OXNARD - The United Farm Workers and Dole Food Co. have reached agreement on a three-year contract that gives berry pickers the best wage and health care package in the nation, officials said Thursday.

The UFW said that the deal's piece rate system means that its members will average between $75 and $100, or 25 percent to 30 percent more, per week than pickers at other companies.

Meanwhile, the LAT did pick up a bunch of National Journalism Awards today (via Romenesko): for Guardians for Profit, the series on abusive guardians; for Steve Lopez columns on Skid Row; for editorial cartoons by no-longer-there Michael Ramirez; and for photographer Damon Winter.
