Gustavo Arellano at the OC Weekly's blog gets in the face of "Chicano yaktivists" (his term) who are attacking Daniel Hernandez of the sister LA Weekly for his hard-hitting story on the turmoil at the South Central Community Garden. He calls it a pattern also seen in Latino leadership piling on the Times' series about the United Farm Workers union.
Enter the Chicano All-Stars.Those are the true believers: the folks who think the MEChA slogan “Por la raza todo; fuera de la raza, nada” is gospel and not an embarrassing 1960s relic. The people who vote by “consensus”. The PC pendejos. The people who are calling Hernandez a vendido–a sell-out.

More ludicrous is the letter by Devon Peña, a professor of anthropology at the University of Washington. Peña begins his lengthy letter by stating, “I believe the author was previously terminated at the L.A. Times and I can now begin to understand why this was likely the case.”
Baboso: Hernandez left the Times on good terms. How do I know? I was one of the guys who told him to join my company.
Arellano also was the subject of Hernandez's final story for the Times, as he acknowledges.
