School power

This won't help Mayor Villaraigosa convince people his desire to take over the LAUSD isn't at least partly a scheme about political power. In a report to the Joint Commission on LAUSD Governance this afternoon, Tony Cardenas chief of staff Jose Cornejo will pitch an idea to increase the Board of Education from seven part-timers to thirteen full-time politicians. They would make the same full-time salary as as a school principal. "That's just more politicians looking for contributions to go from one seat within the city to another," board member Mike Lansing said in the Daily Breeze. The commission will hear about a dozen proposals at a 4 pm meeting at the Metropolitan Water District board room at 700 N. Alameda.
