They didn't work very well and have just been getting worse, so the lighted pylons at the entrance to LAX were switched off this week. They will stay that way for at least a few months while the city gives the so-called Electric Stonehenge a $1.8 million overhaul. Did I mention the celebrated installation of colored lights is only five years old? Says Lydia Kennard, the airport department's executive director: "We are acutely aware of the problem."
