Villaraigosas coming west?

Copley News city hall reporter David Zahniser reports in today's Breeze that Mayor Villaraigosa wants to move his family into Getty House after all. The official residence at 6th and Irving in Windsor Square (near Hancock Park) has not been occupied by a mayor since Tom Bradley. Villaraigosa had said earlier he might use it mainly for official functions and as a second home. Zahniser got hold of a July 26 memo to the Getty House board of directors and certain city officials saying "the family wishes to move into Getty House. The Mayor's Office will issue a formal announcement -- until then, please keep this information to yourself." The memo from Getty House executive director Susan Caputo was followed with another two weeks ago in which she "described preparations for the arrival of the Villaraigosa family -- and asking everyone to 'keep this quiet' until an official announcement is made." Yeah, I guess that didn't work. Villaraigosa's spokeswoman Janelle Erickson would tell the Breeze only that "Mayor Villaraigosa and his family are still considering whether to use the Getty House as their residence." They now live in Mount Washington.

Also in the Breeze: LAX will spend $200,000 to relocate ninety-two palm trees that PO'd the neighbors.
